Men fainting for fear and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.
–Luke 21:26-28
Have you ever laughed at the way some people are saved in movies?
The enemy is closing in, they’re outnumbered, all hope is lost — and then, the cavalry, the police, or the superhero sweeps in at the last second and saves the day. But this just doesn’t ring true. Life doesn’t happen that way!
Or does it?
Turn on the news or browse the internet and you’ll see so many people “fainting for fear, and for the expectation of the things which are coming” — war, corruption, predictions of our impending demise.
To be sure, we will often face conflicts when the cavalry doesn’t ride in to save the day. But if you are a Christian who has been bought with a price, rest in the promise that at the end of all things, or at the end of your life, your redemption is near.
No matter how dire your circumstances from day to day, know that Jesus has already saved it — and you! The war has already been won! The rest of your movie is simply about tying up loose ends.
Prayer
Dear God, Please help me to look up and lift up my head. I want to fix my eyes on Jesus so I can be safe in Him. In precious Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
Can I recall a time when Jesus saved me? What was that like?
