In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening don’t withhold your hand; for you don’t know which will prosper, whether this or that, or whether they both will be equally good.
–Ecclesiastes 11:6
Keith was the kind of kid you couldn’t really get a “good read” on.
He never seemed to be listening in Sunday school or children’s church. In fact, you usually got the impression that his mind was in another world.
He was never disruptive or naughty. He never offered to participate in reading or answering questions. But when it came time to do anything like a worksheet, his paper always had all the right answers. And if I called on him, he never missed a beat. He always had the answer I was looking for.
Keith may have been writing on the bottom of his shoe, tearing a tissue into a million little pieces, or counting the pages in his Bible — anything but what we were doing, but just because he didn’t appear to be paying attention obviously didn’t mean he wasn’t.
Don’t ever think what you do, what you say, or how you act isn’t leaving an impression on someone. They may not appear to be paying attention, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t.
You may not know what’s going on in their heads and in their heart. But God does.
Be the Jesus people need to see, hear, and experience, knowing Jesus can do the rest.
Prayer
Dear God, Please help me see everyone as precious in Your sight. Help me remember that every human is Your child. As such, everyone is worth my time and effort in sharing You with them. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
Who will I reach out to today, even though they seem an unlikely candidate for heaven?
