You shall serve the LORD your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.
–Exodus 23:25
The Israelites didn’t know how good they had it.
It wasn’t enough for them that God supplied the food they needed, served as their own personal GPS, and made sure their clothes and shoes didn’t wear out for forty years.
He also said that if they would obey and serve Him with a sincere heart and mind, He would take every sickness and disease from them. They wouldn’t have to worry about any of them. What a blessing!
But they didn’t do that.
Instead, they chose to disobey, stepping outside of God’s good graces. How sad!
When we look back at their actions, it’s easy for us to point fingers and wonder how they could be so rebellious. Why didn’t they realize how good they had it? God’s instructions were so clear.
But we’re no better.
We have God’s written Word — His promises in writing. His instructions in writing. His expectations and commands in writing. Yet still we think we can do better.
When will we learn?
My prayer is that the answer to that question is soon. Very soon.
Prayer
Dear God, Please make me wiser, more trusting, more faithful, and more obedient to You. I crave the blessings and the joy that comes from serving You. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Reflection
Are there any of God’s promises I have trouble believing? Why? I will ask God to open my heart and mind to His truths more fully.
