For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age.
–Titus 2:11-12
When one of my daughters was in junior high, she started developing the habit of not following through on things, not out of laziness, but because she was dealing with self-esteem issues.
She wanted to run for student council. She thought it would be fun to help decorate the gym for the school dances. She wanted to run track. But her fear of failing or not being “good enough” in her own eyes kept her from doing any of these things.
Wanting to wasn’t enough to get the job done.
The same is true in our relationship with the Lord. While wanting that relationship is definitely the first step, we have to do our part to make it happen. We have to give up anything that is standing between us and Him. We must actively pursue knowledge of what a Godly lifestyle is, then commit ourselves to actually live that way to make it real.
Being a child of God has responsibilities. It requires us to do our part. When we do, we can be sure He will do His.
Prayer
Lord in Heaven, Please give me the strength and courage to live for You. Help me to live a sober, righteous, and godly life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How can I give my life completely to God? When I do, what blessings will I experience?
