My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress. I will not be shaken.
–Psalm 62:5-6
Psalm 65 has been called “A Glorious Harvest Hymn of Praise to God.”
It is a communal thanksgiving song for spiritual blessings—the blessings of answered prayer, forgiveness, feeling the presence of God, and deliverance from enemies, famine, drought, and fatigue.
This is David’s song of praise, penned when God was his fortress. It testifies that God did indeed provide him with a sense of calmness in his heart. He was not depending on his own resources, but on the Lord.
Jesus invites us: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
You and I need to be like David and declare: “Jesus, You are my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. I will not be shaken.”
When we do this, we will experience unshakable rest and peace with God through Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Perfect Lord, I wait for You when I am alone, in silence. You truly are my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. You supply all my expectations. Please help my faith in You to remain unshakable. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How can I have a calm mind when I am in a tough situation? How can I help myself remember that Jesus is my Rock, Salvation, and Fortress?
