But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
–James 1:5
When God asked King Solomon, “What do you want me to give you?” Solomon answered, “Give me wisdom, God.”
God was so pleased with Solomon’s choice that He made the king the wisest and richest person in the history of the world. (Read the whole story in 1 Kings 3:5-14.)
God loves it when His children wish to be wise. He created us with free will, capable of thinking and reasoning. He wants us to use the brains he gave us.
If you would like to be filled with God’s wisdom, pay special attention to today’s verse. It’s a promise. If you ask daily for God’s wisdom, it will be yours. The wisdom of God will change your entire life in ways you cannot even imagine.
God does not want you to be ignorant. He wants you to have the wisdom that comes from Him so you will be able to make decisions both big and small, according to His will for your life.
Each morning, Jesus wanted a quiet place to ask for the Father’s wisdom.
Daniel also prayed for wisdom three times a day. Throughout history, men and women of God have prayed for God’s wisdom to be theirs, too.
Make a habit of asking for God’s wisdom — starting today!
Prayer
Holy Lord, Please help me to ask for wisdom each and every day so that through Your wisdom, I can live the life You want to me to live. Guide me in my interactions with Your children. Help me to make good choices. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How would relying on God’s wisdom instead of my own change the way I make decisions?
