For the LORD says to the house of Israel: “Seek me, and you will live.”
–Amos 5:4
In 1986, Emily, my friend Valerie’s five-year-old daughter, was diagnosed with a fast-growing and aggressive form of cancer.
The doctors gave Valerie and her husband next to no hope Emily would see her seventh birthday.
Valerie was understandably shaken and desperate. Dietary restrictions, herbs, reflexology, acupuncture: you name it, Valerie tried it on Emily, but nothing worked. Before she turned six, little Emily passed away.
Valerie’s heart was shattered. She had sought out every source of help and healing to try to save her baby girl’s life. But none did — not her physical life, anyway.
Now all that was left was to seek God’s strength and comfort so she could go on living for the rest of her family. It wasn’t easy at first.
She’d been so consumed with her daughter’s health and treatment that she had almost forgotten what it felt like to rest in God’s presence. But Emily now rested in God’s hands.
Valerie clung to God, claiming His promises, finding rest and peace in His love for her.
When your heart breaks because of the evils this Earth brings, rest assured that you, too, can experience an “aha” moment in God’s presence. Seek Him, knowing you will find Him.
He offers eternal life — the only real cure for this world of sin.
Reflection
What can I do to be more active in my search to know God more fully and completely?
Prayer
Dear God, I want to know You. No matter the challenges I face, I want You to be the Lord of my life. In Jesus’ name I humbly pray, Amen.
