For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
–Hebrews 4:12
The Bible is for all people at all times.
Helen Keller said, “Unless we form the habit of going to the Bible in bright moments as well as in trouble, we cannot fully respond to its consolations because we lack equilibrium between light and darkness.”
Miss Keller was correct. The message of truth that is the Bible has transformed billions of people throughout history; bringing them to the truth of who God is, leading them to accept the gift of salvation through Jesus’ death on the cross.
As a result of their new-found faith, countless people have lived obediently and abundantly in the blessings God pours out on those who give their lives to Him.
When you read the Bible, ask God to make the words speak to you and come alive in you. Let His words flow through you, energizing your soul and bringing hope and new life to those with whom you come in contact.
Ask God to let the words of the Bible feed your heart, soul, and mind so you can fully understand what Jesus meant when He said, “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4 NLT).
Reflection
What will I do to make a habit of reading the Bible each day? (Some suggestions: * Read one chapter of John every day for the next three weeks. * Memorize the Daily Bible Inspiration Verse of the Day every morning and repeat it to yourself throughout the day. * Read the whole chapter that contains the Verse of the Day and record your thoughts on it in your journal.)
Prayer
Dear God, Please give me the desire to make time for reading the Bible each day. Give me discernment and understanding. Open my heart, soul, and mind to the message and meaning of the words I read. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
