Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.
–Genesis 28:15
Jacob was far from perfect.
He had deceived his father and cheated his older brother, Esau — who now plotted to kill him.
He had been sent away to his uncle’s in an effort to both save his life and bring peace to an unsettled family situation.
Yet, God had made long-term promises to Abraham and Isaac, Jacob’s grandfather and father. And no matter where Jacob ran, he could never run away from God.
When Jacob lay down to sleep, God sent him an inspiring dream full of hope. The dream ended with the words of today’s verse.
God knew all of Jacob’s sins, just as He knows all of ours, but He has great plans for His children. His promises are true.
Why not claim this incredible promise of Genesis 28:15 as your personal one today? “God is with me. He will keep me wherever I go and will bring me again into His promised land. God will not leave me until He has done that which He has spoken to me.”
Then, consider the events of your life as the handiwork of God — not coincidence, luck, or fate. Your faith will grow, making you open to receiving even more from God. It’s a cycle with no end! And it is yours for the asking!
Prayer
Loving God, Thank You for Your blessings. Help me always trust in Your promises. I know You are always with me. In the name of Jesus, Who promised me abundant blessings (John 10:10), I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How might God bless my life if I put my faith and trust in Him as Jacob did?
