I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.
–Genesis 12:2-3
I was scanning through the updates my friends had posted on Facebook.
As I was reading, Breann, a young mother of four, whom I’ve known since she was just a little girl, started out by saying, “I was reminded today of how true it is when people say ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’”
She went on to explain that shortly after dropping her oldest three kids off at school, the school nurse called to say one of the kids was sick. She made a call to her grandma, who picked him up and kept him for the rest of the day.
Because Breann is taking night classes to get her master’s degree, one of her cousins helped her out by picking up the other two from school and bringing them to meet their dad so he could take them to 4-H. And while all this was going on, her mom picked the baby up from the sitter’s until Breann’s class was over.
Breann finished her post by saying how blessed she is to have such a strong support system in her family and how thankful she is for their willingness to be there for each other. She knows these blessings come from God and she doesn’t take them for granted.
Prayer
Blessed Lord, Help me to be a blessing to my family. Please continue to bless our family with Your love, wisdom, protection, and never-ending grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How can I be a blessing to my family this week?
