Even by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty, who will bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.
–Genesis 49:25
Jacob knew a father’s blessings to his children had prophetic power.
So, he called his twelve sons together so that he might bless them (Genesis 49).
Today’s verse is a portion of Jacob’s shower of blessings upon the head of his favorite son, Joseph. (For the complete blessing, see Genesis 49: 22-26). By the grace of God, you can claim this as your blessing, too, if you believe and accept it as such. Remember:
God is the source of all blessings.
Everything we have comes from Him. The air we breathe, the sunshine and the rain, the beauty of nature, parental love — it all comes from God. God blesses His children with so much.
A list of God’s blessings is endless: safe travels, our senses, a sound and fit body, our families, the food we eat, the ability to feel and express love — it all comes from God because He is the Creator and Master of all. And one of our most overlooked blessings is the one named first in today’s verse: God’s help. His divine guidance in our daily lives is responsible for saving more relationships and for us making better decisions than we may ever fully understand.
Praise God for His wonderful showers of blessings!
Prayer
Heavenly Lord, Thank You for showering me with Your blessings. May I be more aware of the blessings You rain down upon me every day. Help me to never take You or Your love for granted. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How has God blessed me today? I will take a few minutes to thank God for these things, calling them by name.
