It shall be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God! We have waited for him, and he will save us! This is the LORD! We have waited for him. We will be glad and rejoice in his salvation!”
–Isaiah 25:9
A few years ago our used van died in a renowned part of the Los Angeles area — renowned that is, for crime.
We puttered off the freeway and came to a halt on the side of a neglected road, just as the sun was setting. “Where are we?” I asked my husband.
He raised his eyebrows and answered, “We need to pray.”
So with four little ones in the back, we whispered to God a plea to get us home somehow, quickly and safely.
Sometimes we have no control over our circumstances. In today’s scripture, for instance, the Church is sitting in the midst of God’s judgment, stuck on the side of a dark road, in a God-forsaken neighborhood, so to speak.
There they wait, eyes wide, hearts hoping, eager for God’s saving to come. And it does!
Sometimes God saves through the hand of nature, sometimes with a merciful government, sometimes with strangers, sometimes with friends. God prompts people to see your need and be available to rescue you. God loves us.
Wait expectantly for His salvation. It is coming.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I am so grateful for Your salvation and grace. Please help me to hold on to You. Fill me with unfailing confidence in Your plan and in Your timing. You are the cause of my rejoicing! In Jesus’ name I humbly pray, Amen.
Reflection
When in the past have I needed a rescue? Did I ask for God’s help? How did He save me?
