That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person.
–Ephesians 3:16
Today’s verse is part of a prayer Paul wrote to the Ephesian church members.
It is a powerful prayer — one we should all be praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The “riches of His glory” is the standard by which God gives His blessings to you. These are the limitless resources available to you as a child of God.
Paul is saying that he doesn’t want you to be satisfied with being a nominal Christian (if there is such a thing). He wants you to enjoy the abundant grace of God.
You see, each person measures by that person’s own limited way, but God measures by His unlimited riches and glory. So, when you open yourself up to seeing things from God’s perspective, your spiritual life becomes more intense and magnified. And when that happens, your inner person becomes one with Christ, and the riches and glory that are His will be given to you.
When your inner life becomes like Jesus’ life, you affect people in life-changing ways wherever you go. You essentially become the hands and feet of Jesus, displaying His glorious riches everywhere you go.
Prayer
Glorious God, Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit. May Your divine power strengthen my body and my thoughts. Use me to change the hearts of the people around me. Help me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How will I let the presence of the Holy Spirit change me?
