Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with me.
–Revelation 3:20
My freshman year of college didn't go according to plan.
I thought it was going to be great! I was finally on my own, far away from my parents' rule, and free to do whatever I wanted. But instead of being exciting, I found that being on my own could be scary. I was alone more often than not and would get lost in my thoughts. Over time, I started to doubt God and His love for me.
But God never left me alone. He carried me through my doubts and held me as I questioned Him. He loved me through my sins and didn't give up on me.
It's easy to feel alone and doubt that God is with you. But God has said that He would never leave us, nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He loves us. We can trust that He is with us, even when we don't feel Him or don't know He's there.
Jesus knocks on the doors of our hearts, waiting for us to let Him in. He longs to be our Friend and Savior, to make us clean, and prepare us to be with Him forever. If you haven't yet, why not open the door and invite Jesus into your heart today?
Prayer
Dear God in Heaven, Thank You for Your love. Please come live in my heart, Lord Jesus. Help me to trust You and to build a strong, lasting relationship with You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How can I spend time with Jesus today? How can my relationship with Jesus provide me with the companionship I crave?
