Jesus, Our Example and Path
A devotion on Philippians 4:9
The things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me: do these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
I remember learning to drive a manual transmission car.
My dad and I were parked on an upward slope. He showed me how to press the clutch and brake to shift into first gear and then slowly ease on the gas as the car started to roll back.
Just as my dad showed me how to drive, Jesus came to show us how to live.
Jesus showed us the merit of hard work and honoring your parents. He worked until He was 30 years old as a daily laborer. He respected His mother and made sure she was taken care of even as He hung dying on the cross.
Jesus showed us how we can live a holy life. He studied and knew God’s Word and used it for His goals and values. He spent many nights and early mornings, praying to God for guidance and power.
Jesus showed us the value of a well spent life. He lived to alleviate the pain and suffering of others. He comforted the sorrowful. He celebrated at weddings. He enjoyed eating with His friends and even strangers. And lastly, He died so you and I could have a chance at eternal life.
Jesus has already walked the path and defeated Satan.
He bids you to walk as He did, in His way. He will strengthen you to follow His example if you just ask.
What are some ways I can follow Jesus’ example today?
Dear Jesus, You are my example. You walked the path to make it easier for me to follow. Please help me to walk in Your way today. Help me to know You, to work hard, to pray often, and to help and bless others. Give me the power to overcome Satan today. Thank You for hearing and answering this prayer already. In Your name I pray, Amen.
