It’s Never Enough Until We Realize It’s Enough
A devotion on Ecclesiastes 1:8
All things are full of weariness beyond uttering. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
I remember the day my husband and I decided I would find a way to work from home.
I stayed at home with our four kids and we farmed, so money was tight, but we made it. We raised most of our food, I was a careful and thrifty shopper, and we were not into labels and having the latest and greatest in anything.
But we did need to replace a vehicle, so we figured if I could come up with a way to make $300 a month, we’d be golden.
Once the vehicle was replaced, I assumed things would be good. But it wasn’t long before other “needs” started to pop up, making it “necessary” for me to add a little more and then a little more to what I was making.
Three years later, I was trying to stay on my work-from-home job while still caring for the farm, the kids, and my responsibilities at church. In short, we had a classic case of “it is not enough.”
The cure is simple, but it’s not always easy. It’s to say “enough is enough.” God will provide contentment with what you have and can earn without over-stressing or putting your marriage, your family, and your well-being on the back burner.
Let Him put your heart and mind at ease.
What changes do I need to make in my life to be more satisfied with what God says is enough for me?
Dear abundant God, Thank You for giving me enough. Please help me be satisfied with the many blessings You have given me. In Jesus’ gracious name I pray, Amen.
