I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.
–Psalm 27:13-14
There is a praise chorus that includes these words: “In His time, in His time; God makes all things beautiful in His time….”
I have seen the truth of these words more times than I can count, but the one most deeply engraved on my heart and mind involves my husband and my son.
Both are strong-willed and stubborn. On one particular occasion, their stubbornness led to a disagreement that turned into cold, stony silence between them for a long period of time.
As a mom and as a “fixer,” I felt compelled to try to mediate, beg, and push the two to agree to disagree and put their relationship (and our family) back together. Nothing I said or did work. Not even praying about it.
I became discouraged and frustrated. Why wasn’t God answering my prayers with something other than NO!?
Then one day God said to me, “It’s not yours to fix.”
After that, I prayed that my “boys” would want to come back together. Three months later, my husband reached out to our son and they started repairing their relationship.
I can tell you first-hand that waiting on God isn’t always easy. But I can also tell you this — it is always worth the wait because when God answers, His answers are always perfect.
Prayer
Dear God, Thank You for Your perfect timing, Your perfect wisdom, Your perfect love. Please strengthen my confidence and faith as I wait on You. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How might changing the way I pray help me better see the blessing and perfectness of God’s timing?
