But as it is written, “Things which an eye didn’t see, and an ear didn’t hear, which didn’t enter into the heart of man, these God has prepared for those who love him.”
–1 Corinthians 2:9
When I was a kid, I was the ultimate snoop.
In the weeks before my birthday and Christmas, I took every opportunity I could get to snoop around the house, looking for any presents that might be hidden until it was time for me to open them.
Over the years I found a few, but I have to admit that afterwards, I felt a bit of a let-down knowing I wouldn’t experience that euphoria of surprise that comes when you don’t have a clue what is inside the package.
I also felt guilty for robbing my parents of the joy of witnessing my initial response to receiving something they knew I wanted.
God wants to give us that same sense of elation on a much larger scale by saving some of the joys of heaven for when we actually get there. And, like my parents, He wants to be there, face-to-face with us, to witness our response and see the look of utter amazement on our faces and in our hearts.
So don’t worry or fret over the things you don’t know about God and heaven. Instead, take joy in what you do know and let that make life on earth the best it can be.
Prayer
God in Heaven, Thank You for loving me. Please grant me peace here on earth and fill me with excitement over what is to come. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
What do I think heaven will be like? What am I most looking forward to, once I get there?
