Wisdom is as good as an inheritance. Yes, it is more excellent for those who see the sun. For wisdom is a defense, even as money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.
–Ecclesiastes 7:11-12
The teenager said if she would have known they were going to make her parallel park and merge onto a busy highway when she took her driver’s test, she would have been better prepared. She would have passed and not had to try a second time to get her license.
The first-time mom who said she was going to keep her baby in a routine so sleeping through the night would not be a problem later said she wished someone would have told her she was living in la-la land. If she would have been told, she could have spared herself the angst of feeling like a complete failure.
The abused ex-wife said if she would have listened to wise words of family and friends and the wisdom of her own mind, she wouldn’t have spent six years living in emotional and physical hell at the hands of her husband.
Wisdom is using knowledge optimally. Wisdom involves making sound judgment. Wisdom encompasses both understanding and perception. It is not merely about possessing information.
Knowing about God doesn’t save us.
Accepting Christ’s sacrifice, knowing the wisdom of God and making it our wisdom — that’s what saves us.
Prayer
Dear God, Please make me wise. Keep me faithful and obedient. Thank You for preserving my life. Help me to trust in You rather than in my own knowledge. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How has the wisdom of God helped me through a tough situation?
