These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
–Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Today’s verses speak of the importance of keeping God’s Word alive in our homes and passing it on to our children.
These verses are more than reminders, though. They are a three-part command from God to:
1. Keep God’s Word in your heart.
The Bible is God’s love letter to you. Read it. Meditate upon it. Believe it and live it so it will be real in your life and in the lives of your children.
2. Teach God’s Word to your children.
Make the Bible a constant in your home. Build your family’s rules and expectations around it. Read the Bible to your children and with your children. Teach them to know it as truth.
3. Live God’s Word in your everyday life.
Actions speak louder than words. Let your children learn God’s Word by seeing it lived out in you. Pray they will embrace it as you have.
Prayer
Heavenly Lord, Please help me to know and obey Your Word. Help me to teach my children and those who are dependent upon me to do the same. In Jesus’ loving name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
How can I study the Bible more diligently in order to know Jesus better?
