I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
–John 12:46
Today’s verse is an antidote to darkness.
If something is weighing on your heart, causing you to be anxious and fearful, John 12:46 gives you the key to making that thing go away. It’s a simple two-step process:
Step 1. Refuse to focus on the darkness in your life.
Satan, who is the “Father of Lies” (John 8:44), will whisper words of discouragement into your ear. He’ll tempt you to give up, to lose faith, to question your beliefs, to quit trying. He wants to trick you into believing darkness is inevitable. It isn’t.
Step 2. Believe in Jesus, the Light of the world.
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who lived in the land of the shadow of death, on them the light has shined,” said the prophet Isaiah, speaking about Jesus, the coming Messiah (Isaiah 9:2).
When you firmly and faithfully fix your eyes on Jesus, believing in His great light, the darkness plaguing you will disappear.
Don’t allow the doubt of darkness to make its way into your heart.
Let the light of Jesus expose every bit of darkness, chasing it away and replacing it with eternal joy.
Prayer
Blessed Lord, Thank You for Jesus, who is the Light in my heart. Let me live in such a way to reflect His light so people see Jesus in me. I pray in the name of Jesus, who is the Light of my life, Amen.
Reflection
How will I apply these steps to erase any darkness lingering in my heart?
