Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God.
–Psalm 43:5
Today’s verse tells us that God is everything we need: Hope, Helper, and Savior.
God is our Hope because He makes all things possible. Abraham hoped God would provide a lamb. Hannah hoped God would answer her prayer and give her a son. Peter hoped God would give him the words and the courage to take the Gospel to the Gentiles. I hope God will let my words touch someone’s life.
God is our Helper; promising to be with us always. Moses depended on God’s help to lead and govern the Israelites. Joshua knew God was the Helper as he and the Israelites prepared to take the city of Jericho. The disciples knew they were able to heal the sick and restore sight to the blind only through God’s help. I know it is only because God is my helper that I am able to teach young Christian parents how to build their home around Him.
God is our Savior. He sent His son, Jesus, to die for our sins. Salvation through and because of God’s mercy, love, and grace is the only salvation there is.
There is only one God. He was, is, and will be forever. He is everything we need.
Prayer
Dear God, Thank You for believing I am worth loving. Keep me from despair. Help me put my whole trust in You. My life is in Your hands. Thank You for Jesus, in whose name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
What are some things I can and will do this week to recognize God for who and what He is?
