“So you, son of man: I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word from my mouth, and give them warnings from me.”
–Ezekiel 33:7
A wonderful little app is gaining popularity with many drivers.
It’s called Waze, and it is a living map that can literally coach you mile for a mile to your destination. It alerts drivers to road hazards, police and traffic jams, and then it reroutes them to the quickest way around. If you make a wrong turn, no bother, the app immediately re-figures how to get you back on track.
Waze has given our family more time at our planned destinations and saved us gas and frustration. It’s like an electric watchman — our virtual advance guard.
God puts human watchmen in our lives too. He wants to keep us on the best roads: those that develop the best of our character, the best friendships, the best career paths, the best marriages, the best families, the best of what God has for us.
Sometimes it isn’t the standard route everyone else is taking. Sometimes there are spiritual dangers in our path, an impassable roadblock, or a dangerous object ahead. Sometimes there’s a traffic jam and God has a more scenic route, a safer, more meaningful one planned.
God has the grand map. Open your ears to His directions. Let the heavenly watchman direct your path.
Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank You for looking out for me. Thank You for knowing the path I should take. I place all my faith and trust in You. Help me to follow where You lead. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
Who or what has been a watchman in my life? Is someone suggesting that I take a different life path than the one I am heading down? I will pray for wisdom as I consider their advice.
