But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.
–Matthew 6:33-34
A song from the 1966 musical “Cabaret” wryly noted that “money makes the world go round.”
Sadly, that sentiment has become a truism in our Western culture. Those who say it typically mean that money, buying and selling, the economy, are what drive the lives of those who live on this planet.
Though this is all too true for many people who sacrifice their health, time, families, and relationships in pursuit of the “almighty dollar,” money doesn’t literally make the world turn.
God, as Creator of the heavens and earth, established the natural laws and set the series of events in motion that make the world go round. This includes both the earth’s literal rotation and the existence of money.
God’s got this.
The entire universe operates at His command. You are His child. He knows what you need — so there is no need to spin ‘round and ‘round in anxiety.
The next time you find yourself fretting about clothing your children, paying the electric bill, or having enough for retirement, remember this fundamental truth:
God makes the world go round. Seek Him first. Tell Him your troubles, and He will give you exactly what you need.
Prayer
Dear God, You have created everything in this world. The wealth of every mine is at Your fingertips. Thank You for calling me Your child. I trust in You to see that all my needs are met in the best way possible. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
What am I currently worried about? I will lift these things up to the God who supplies everything I need, thanking Him for caring for my past, present, and future.
