In him we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.
–Ephesians 3:12
The more that I observe the way children live life, the more I begin to understand why Jesus said that we should be like them.
Among other things, one trait that I notice in kids is that they are so confident. If a child is in a loving family relationship and they want or need something, they have no issues with making their voice heard. In full confidence they go up to their parents and simply state what is on their mind. There is no beating around the bush or wondering if they have been good enough to come to their parents.
We are told that we too can have this confidence when we are in God’s presence.
Paul states in Ephesians 3:12 that because of Jesus, we have access to God and we can confidently come to Him in faith.
This means that, like a child, we can enter God’s presence confident of His love for us and tell Him what we need or what we want.
We also don’t have to wonder if we have been good enough to come to God. It isn’t confidence in ourselves, because on our own we aren’t worthy. Rather, it is confidence in Jesus and His worthiness. Our confidence comes from the fact that Jesus died to give us not only free access, but also salvation.
Reflection
Do I feel confident in coming to God? Why or why not? What might give me increased confidence in approaching Him?
Prayer
Dear God, Thank You for the precious gift of Jesus. Because of His sacrifice, I can confidently enter Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
