He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
–Proverbs 22:9
Lauren was standing in line at the grocery store when the man in front of her noticed her ARMY WIFE sweatshirt. He thanked her and her husband for their service… and paid for her cart full of groceries.
Wesley and Evie are young doctors in a small, rural community. They generously barter medical services in exchange for produce, babysitting, music lessons, and a number of other things — most of which don’t cover the cost of the medical care they provide.
Keith gladly gives a good portion of his time two weekends a month to do routine maintenance and any necessary repairs on cars belonging to about a dozen single women in his church.
Ben and Elizabeth, who are now in their sixties, give their Friday evenings, opening their home to babysit so young couples in their church can enjoy an evening of kid-free conversation.
God rewards those who give with the attitude that they are simply sharing with others what He has shared with them. The rewards may be intangible, such as greater happiness, improved mental health, or a larger circle of friends, but they are priceless.
Giving generously makes room in our lives for more, new, different, and exciting blessings God has for us to enjoy.
Prayer
Dear Lord, Please help me have a generous and trusting heart. Help me give to others because I know it is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Reflection
What benefits do I see in generosity? What will I do this week to be more generous with others?
